About

Marcia Wood-Mertinooke is an artist living and working in Bedford, NH.  She received her BA in Studio Art from the University of NH and was a student at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, NY.  She was a founding member of the Monastery Artist Collective in Manchester, NH.  Currently she is a member of the New Hampshire Women's Caucus for Art and Watch This Space, NH.

Current works focus on questions of existence. What we view as irrelevant or as necessary shapes how we interact with our reality. How much of this is under our control; in what way are we guided by fate and what space is there for free will?

Figures are used in an iconographic manner, a vessel to the message that what is familiar is also unknown. Graphic two dimensional backgrounds are their own symbolic, pictographic type language and are used to further convey the meaning of the overall image. Combining senses of realism with emotional expressionism, each work is version of reality interpreted and invented.
